If you are part of the group, which you are addressing, you will be in a position to know the experiences and problems which are common to all of you and it’ll be appropriate for you to make a passing remark about the inedible canteen food or the chairman’s notorious bad taste in ties.

【结构分析】

句子主干是you will be in a position...and it’ll be appropriate for you to make a passing remark。本句由两个并列的分句构成。分句一中，if引导从句表示条件，从句主干是you are part of the group，group后接一个从句which you are addressing，用来修饰group。分句一中 be in a position to do sth表示（由客观或主观条件）可能做某事，能够做某事。to know the experiences and problems表示目的。其后which引导从句，修饰the experiences and problems。分句二中含有it is + adj. for sb. to do sth，在英语中称作形式主语句，it 称为形式主语，to do sth作真正的主语，这种句型一般翻译为“某人做......是......”
